We've had a very busy couple days. On Saturday we supported the MADD (Mother's Against Drunk Driving) second annual 5k. Two old girlfriends from high school signed up with their families too and it was so much fun walking with our families, laughing, and catching up. It's such a great feeling that even after all these years we still have the best time together. That afternoon Ricky had to work but the kids and I had one of our neighbors over with her kiddos. The weather was amazing and we sat outside and the kids played their little hearts out. Ricky surprised us that evening by coming home early. We finished a great day watching Horton Hears a Who by Dr. Seuss. The kids were in love!
Sunday the weather was amazing!! We had a birthday party that afternoon at Old McDonald Farm. I had wanted to take the kids for a couple months now but it has been too hot. It was one of the friends we were with on Saturday, her son's fourth birthday. Hands down it was the best birthday party we've been to yet. All three of the kids rode ponies for the first time and LOVED it! Gracie was the only one that was not sure about it at first but quickly warmed up. Since it's the season of pumpkins, they also had a pumpkin patch and each kid was able to take a pumpkin home. Seriously, the best day in a long time. I love making memories like this with my family.
Monday the kids didn't have school because of Columbus Day. I realize how much I love them going to school two days a week. Gracie and I ran errands most of the day. We are hosting a pumpkin decorating party on Sunday with my some of our friends, their kids, and my brother's family. We had to get some goodies for that.
Today marked two weeks since Gracie's major surgery. Last night while I was changing her diaper, she moved in such a way that I was able to see inside her cast. I was very concerned because there was a deep cut that was not stitched up and red. This morning when all the therapist arrived, I asked our PT to take a look. He was concerned to and we contacted the doctor. This Orthopedic is so amazing that when we actually called and left our info, he had the OR nurse call while he was in the middle of a surgery. Anyway, he said that if I was concerned then he would see her between surgeries. So off to the medical center we went. We had to give Gracie some anxiety medicine she had from her surgery so she wouldn't freak out when they cut her cast off. I was freaking out enough for all 5 of us. Anyway, we got there and they cut off her cast. Her leg looked like a horror film. I couldn't even look at the whole thing. We had about a 10 minute wait until the doctor got there and was so relieved when we saw him. He said everything was.... great! Thank goodness! He said the reason her leg was oozing was because she sweats so much and the "cut" was her skin stretching but really wasn't a cut. He had the nurse put on a different "sleeve" type thing before the hard cast went on to help with the sweating so it would dry up. Seeing what I saw today, I can't believe how strong this little girl is. I can't believe that she hasn't needed pain medications since 3 days after surgery, I can't believe she is WALKING, lifting that leg up, etc. The strength she has is inspiring. Back to the appointment, he had the nurse cast her a little differently since she was literally walking the hard casting off her cast. Now it has extra casting so it will be better for her when she does walk. Speaking of walking, she is walking with her push toy which is amazing. I don't want to push her at all during this time and am amazed that she is even doing that. She will stand all by herself without holding on to anything. Just amazing!
Brody has learned a new bad habit, he has bitten Madi 3 times. Twice yesterday and once today. Yesterday Ricky dealt with it by popping him in the mouth and making him take a nap. I bet Brody thought he was going to die since I'm not sure Ricky has ever even gotten on to him :) I told Ricky yesterday if he bites again I'm going to bite him back so I bit him today. He knew he did wrong when he did it. I've heard some many mixed advice on what to do; from popping them in the mouth, to biting them back, and even hot sauce or something nasty in their mouth like apple cider vinegar. I just hope he has learned his lesson. If he bites in school, they have a 3 strike your out policy. We've got to make sure this is nipped.
We've got another exciting weekend. The kids and I (we think Ricky has to work) will be attending their first high school football game. My best friend and the kids godmother's oldest daughter is a senior in high school this year and is an officer on the school dance team. I want to go see her do her "thang" and I'm sure the girls will love to see Madison in her uniform and Brody can watch football. Good fun for everyone!
Until next time,
Krista
